Pilgrims Group has opened a new purpose-built HQ in Lagos.

The newly renovated, modern facility houses a state-of-the-art control room and new meeting and board rooms, as well as providing the base for local security teams. The HQ block, known as Independence Hall, depicts a lot of history as it was where the signing of Nigeria’s independence took place with Queen Elizabeth. It is conveniently located next to the well-known, 5-star Sun International’s Federal Palace Hotel (a Pilgrims client since 2009), with easy access to the Lagos harbour.

Pilgrims Group first began working in Nigeria in 2007, starting in a small office in Victoria Island with just 10 staff offering consultancy and journey management. Since then, the operation has grown and developed to provide a full portfolio of security services to businesses, including manned guarding, training, fleet management and maritime services.

While national operations are run from Lagos, there are also regional Pilgrims centres in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano. In total, around 404 local staff and 13 expatriate staff support the needs of clients, as well as around 500 guards and a dedicated MOPOL team to provide armed response. (The country’s Mobile Police Force, which can take over operations of major crisis where conventional police units cannot cope).

Pilgrims Africa’s Managing Director, Cobus Claassens, commented: “Our new HQ gives us much greater capacity and ability to serve our clients’ needs, as well as to expand our operations and services in-country. It is a major step forward and reflects our confidence and commitment to our work here."
